MASCD-Sponsored
Exhibitor Fairs
Goals
- Provide an important service for book companies.
- Provide an important service for district curriculum teams.
What
is an exhibitor fair?
The
purpose of an exhibitor fair is to provide a one-stop venue for
teachers and curriculum committees to see new products and services,
while also having an opportunity to hear company presentations and
specialists. Presently, these must be arranged individually, and
the smaller the district, the less likely the publisher may be willing
to come and present.
An
exhibitor fair allows committees to see materials that could be
adopted, while also giving the publisher a concentrated place/time
to meet curriculum committees. It is cost efficient for book companies,
and for consortia and districts.
For
example, a fair was held in Missoula on January 28, 2002, serving
book companies and various school districts—Missoula, Helena,
Great Falls, Libby, Polson, and Lincoln to name just a few. The
fair served schools in a 20,000 square mile area. Missoula Curriculum
Consortium Schools anchored the event as a partner with MASCD.
Still
another fair was held two days later on January 30 in Billings;
this one co-sponsored by Billings Public Schools, ACE Curriculum
Cooperative, and MASCD.
What
are the advantages of the fair?
An exhibitor fair gives book and commercial companies
an inexpensive means to meet curriculum committees and show samples.
The districts and consortia gain because they also have an inexpensive
way to see new materials, talk with company representatives and
presenters, and see what other districts are doing and thinking.
The presentations, teachers say, are invaluable and a savings of
time and district monies.
